Water Notice to Plattsmouth Water Customers, November 28
Water from your tap is safe to drink.
Water meets or exceeds all safe drinking water standards set by the State of Nebraska.
The City’s water treatment plant was offline for a period of time due to mechanical issues. The repairs have been made and our plant is back online. While our system was offline, the City was purchasing water from Cass County Rural Water District. Plattsmouth’s Water source is groundwater that is treated with a lime softening process at our current treatment plant. The water purchased from Cass County Rural Water District does not have the same softening process. Water discoloration may occur when there are changes in the water system.
If you're experiencing water discoloration, please follow these steps before contacting the Plattsmouth Public Works Department.
Voluntary Water Restrictions
The Plattsmouth Water Department successfully switched from Cass County Rural Water source to the City of Plattsmouth’s water source on November 6. As of November 7, the City has moved from mandatory water restrictions to voluntary water restrictions. The City would like to limit the demand on the water system while repairs continue to be made to the existing drinking water treatment plant. Commercial Car Washes are open with normal business hours.
The City’s drinking water system was severely impacted by the March 2019 Flood and temporary repairs were completed on the drinking water treatment system to allow the City to restore the existing water source. The long-term solution is a new drinking water source, and the City is diligently working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Nebraska Emergency Management Agency, the State of Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy, and Metropolitan Utilities District on a long-term solution.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Groundbreaking
Over 50 people attended the groundbreaking for the new Wastewater Treatment Plant on March 3, 2023. Participating in the ceremony were Mayor Paul Lambert, City Administrator Emily Bausch, and former City Administrator/Assistant Director of Nebraska Emergency Management Agency Erv Portis along with City Council members and other dignitaries. See City Construction Projects for an update on the project's progress.

Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act), as amended, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings, and in other housing-related transactions. Welcome to Plattsmouth!
Founded in 1854, we are one of Nebraska’s oldest cities. Plattsmouth is rich in history and culture. Situated at the confluence of the Missouri and Platte rivers, Plattsmouth has a place in the discovery of the west. The Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery passed the mouth of the Platte River, just north of what is now Main Street Plattsmouth, on July 21, 1804. Our City seal reads “Honor the Past, Plan for the Future.”
Plattsmouth proudly offers a full range of excellent city services, including police; volunteer fire and rescue; public works which includes water, sewer, streets, parks, and grounds/facilities maintenance. So that we are prepared for the future, we recently expanded the fire and rescue department with a $1.7 million expansion that includes meeting rooms, a kitchen, and sleeper rooms. Our new $5.7 million Senior and Community Center serves more than 1,000 local area citizens who visit more than 12,000 times per week. Twin Rivers Water Park, Rhylander Park, Garfield Park, Memorial Park, and all other parks/recreation facilities and our excellent library add services and lifestyle qualities so that Plattsmouth’s citizens and our visitors have superior places to live, work, and play. In 2011, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman presented the Showcase Community Award to Plattsmouth for outstanding efforts in the areas of economic development and community revitalization.
