Water Supply - Construction Updates
The intent of this general construction update is to give an overview of the work completed and a projection of work expected in the following weeks. Construction progress may differ from the information provided because of weather or other construction elements. See the December 5, 2025, construction update which includes contact information if you have any questions.
Previous work overview, June 20, 2025, through December 5, 2025:
- The limits of construction (flagged lathe) were staked along Bay Road, 6th Street, and Oak Hill Road.
- Contractor delivered pipes and fittings along the water main route on Bay Road, 6th Street, and Oak Hill Road.
- Contractor continued to fuse polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe together on the Metropolitan Utilities District (MUD) South Platte Plant and along the project route.
- Contractor completed installation of water main pipe along 6th Street and began installation of the water main west along Bay Road from the 6th Street intersection.
- Contractor continued water main installation at the MUD South Platte Plant and prepared the site for winter stabilization.
- Contractor completed installation of the water main via trenchless methods along Bay Road.
- Contractor continued installation of the water main pipe west along Bay Road.
- Contractor continued the trenchless installation of the water main along Buccaneer Boulevard.
Upcoming work overview, December 6-19, 2025:
- Contractor will complete the installation of the water main along Bay Road.
- Contractor will begin trench construction along Buccaneer Boulevard.
- Contractor will install traffic control devices during construction along Buccaneer Boulevard. Alternating one-way traffic will be implemented along the construction zone. Temporary traffic signals will be used.
Avenue B Construction:
- The water transmission main is scheduled to start construction in spring 2026. February 26, 2026, the City of Plattsmouth will have a neighborhood meeting to discuss the project and schedule.
- Black Hills Energy will complete the Avenue B gas main relocation by approximately December 2025.
- The Nebraska Public Power District is relocating its electrical infrastructure (generally underground) along the north side of Avenue B. This work is scheduled to commence by December 2025. Work includes One-Call flags, pothole location of existing utilities, possible one-way traffic, trenchless installation of utilities in the right-of-way, installation of electrical infrastructure, and excavation to transfer each electrical service line.
SID No.5 Construction:
- Contractor will continue to install the water main along Buccaneer Boulevard and will use one-way alternating traffic along the construction zone.
- Contractor will install the water main and trenchless construction near the end of Treasure Island Road.
Plattsmouth Water Supply 60% Design
On Monday, November 4, a public meeting was held to share information about the 60% Design phase of the project to purchase water from Metropolitan Utilities District. This will include running pipe under the Platte River near Buccaneer Bay and proceeding south to Oak Hill Road and Avenue B.
